Once every semester a small group of undergrads get together at the Alumni House to meet with alumni via the Knights of Networking program. Through this, Alumni Office sponsored program, students have a chance to ask alumni questions about the value and real world application of their liberal arts degrees.
Julie Curro, assistant director for alumni communities, says the program offers an "opportunity for our students to talk to alums in an intimate setting". Attendance for the program is generally capped at around fifteen students to create a more personal environment. Mike Kelly, the student intern in charge of organizing Knights of Networking, urges students interested in the program to RSVP as soon as they notice fliers up around campus.
Through the program, alumni have a chance to share their personal career experience and help students gain insight for the future. Alumni want to be involved with students and are willing to share stories about their successes and the journey they've been on since graduation. They can relate their experiences in the classroom to the real world, and help students do the same.
Networking with alumni also allows for students to gain contacts in the working world - and alumni might even pass on a student resume or two to their own corporations. Being in contact with alumni gives St. Norbert students an "in," which is especially valuable in the workforce today.
The Knight of Networking is generally centered on a specific field but undergrads of all majors are welcome. After all, a liberal arts degree is incredibly versatile and students can only benefit from making contacts in several different fields.
