The SNC women opened up their Midwest Conference season with tough wins after an honest start during the school's spring break. Facing the Buccaneers of Beloit College in a doubleheader, the women brought out a scoring frenzy with two wins and a total of 22-runs. The first game started out with pitcher Mara Resch playing seven innings and a strong showing from the batters. Tracy Palmer went three for four, with three hits and three runs batted in (RBIs), while Jes Van Hout and Resch each added 2 RBIs. The second game consisted of 3 RBIs from Van Hout and two from Palmer with a solid pitching performance from freshman Kayla Krueger who only allowed three hits and four strikeouts. After this series, the Knights are 2-0 in conference play.
Coming into the next game, the Knights had their sights set high as they played the #8 team in the nation, the UW- Eau Claire Blugolds. The Blugolds stunted any progression by only allowing 3 hits, two of which came from sophomore Brieanne Oehlke. The Knights' persistence paid off in the second game with a 6-4 win. This impressive win over a highly-ranked team came after solid pitching from Krueger who lasted seven innings and kept seven Blugolds on base. After giving up a three-run homerun, the freshman did not sacrifice an earned run. Kim Sawyer had 3 RBIs and Lindsey Reynolds knocked in 2 more. The win takes the women to a record of 8-6 and keeps them confident.
"We played extremely well and it was just an all-around great team victory. Our pitching was great, our defense was spectacular, and our bats lit it up," said Erin Pamperin. "We now know that we can play with anyone we face."
