Summer is almost here! Barbecues and pool parties are just around the corner, and the Super Furry Animals have just released their new album of essential summer music that is perfect for enjoying the sunshine.

Not many people have heard of Super Furry Animals, but if you ever watched "The O.C." you've definitely heard some of their music. Certain albums have that unexplainable summer vibe and Super Furry Animals's new album "Dark Days/Light Years" is no exception.

If you can find the strength to veer away from the likes of Lady GaGa and Flo Rida, Super Furry Animals is the way to go. Why not add a little individuality to your music collection? Trust me, no band is more individual than Super Furry Animals.

"Dark Days/Light Years" is full of bright, electro-pop tracks with fun, light lyrics. "White Socks/Flip Flops" is an essential summer song-the upbeat electric guitar and keyboard along with the light, poppy lyrics are perfect to listen to while swimming or playing beach volleyball.

Another track on the album, "Where Do You Wanna Go?", has the same electro-pop vibe as "White Socks/Flip Flops" but the extra psychedelic interludes make you feel like you should be skipping around in a field and blowing bubbles.

"The Very Best of Neil Diamond" mixes styles of hard rock with Bollywood, yet stays true to the same electronic feel of the entire album.

If much of the album "Dark Days/Light Years" is a little too psychedelic for your liking, I'd recommend downloading "Inaugural Trams." It's got a steady alternative style with a hint of 70s style (can't expect much less).

The final song on the album, "Pric," summarizes the whole album: flower power and the Age of Aquarius haven't died. Super Furry Animals have brought the 1970s back to life…and it's working.

Do some of you still feel jealous that your parents got to experience Woodstock? Well, just sit outside, blow some bubbles, and listen to this…you're basically there. If you don't mind leaving traditional hip-hop and pop music for other summertime mixes, I would highly recommend Super Furry Animals.

Their album "Dark Days/Light Years" features fun, upbeat music right in time for blue skies and nice weather. If you're not in the mood for an hour filled of psychedelic tunes, at least download some of the songs for a mix.

So while you're planning some summer road trips, throw some Super Furry Animals on your drive mix, roll down your windows and enjoy a step back in what seems like the 70s in the sunshine.

Best band ever...glorious psych pop/psych freakouts. Best band out of U.K. since the Beatles - seriously. And they've been doing it for 12 years.
