For the first three years of college, most students love the final month of school. The weather is finally warm, classes are coming to an end, and it's time to go home. "Summer always meant seeing my high school friends, it was something to look forward to and be happy about," reflects Kelly Fleming '09. When the final year of college rolls around, however, Fleming thinks that students find themselves faced with new emotions. "Even though I looked forward to summer the past three years, I'm finding it really hard to say goodbye now. I don't know exactly how I feel about going home this time." Fleming notes.
What is it about this final year of college? Why is the desire to hang on so strong, the fear of uncertainty so real, and the surrounding friendships so comforting?
"You find yourself in college," Marjorie Ennenback 09 says. "You spend four long years experiencing a lot of good and even a lot of bad. No matter what happens along the way, though, you become a better, stronger person. It seems like once you realize how much you've learned here and you discover how confident you are, the world wants to challenge you again. Post graduation life is going to be difficult to adjust to - I feel like I've found a home here."
