SNC's Campus Safety has recently undergone several new developments, both in equipment and in personnel, as well as creating a more effective lost and found program and making changes to parking policy.

The department recently increased its surveillance equipment by purchasing a pan-tilt zoom camera and two monitors for video surveillance, as well as a new emergency radio scanner and bike pannier bags.

Jill Hofer, campus safety office coordinator, said the equipment "will improve how we respond to calls for service on campus."

The funding for all of the new items was provided by the Student Government Association (SGA) through a capital endowment.

Another important change was the addition of new full time professional officer, James "Sunny" Sundstrom.

Sundstrom joined the Campus Safety team in April to fill the 7 p.m. to 3 a.m. position on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays.

He is expected to be a strong addition to the department, as he has fourteen years of experience working with the Green Bay Police Department.

Students are encouraged to meet and welcome Sundstrom by visiting the Campus Safety office while he is working.

As well as increasing personnel efficiency, the department has started to make its lost and found program more productive by consolidating all of the found items that have accumulated throughout the year and posting a complete list of the items on the Campus Safety section of the SNC website.

Many significant items have been found throughout the year, including 31 flash drives, 28 sets of keys, 20 student ID cards, and 14 cell phones.

"We would love to reunite you with your lost items," said Hofer.

All items can be recovered in room 120 of the Pennings Activity Center (PAC).

Addressing students' number one concern pertinent to their department, Campus Safety also would like to remind students that all vehicles must be registered on an annual basis. However, changes will be made to the registration process.

The process will no longer occur entirely through email communication; students will receive notification about registration via e-mail in late July or early Aug., but registration will be done through students' Knightline accounts.

In other parking-related developments, the department says that they are currently at work on a proposal that would add additional parking for the 2009-10 academic year.

Hopefully, these changes and upgrades will help to make this campus a safer place than what it already is and considered to be by its students and faculty.
