52nd Annual Grammy Awards
Caitlyn Daczyk
Issue date: 2/8/10 Section: Entertainment
Best Rock Album went to Green Day for "21st Century Breakdown." Zac Brown Band won Best New Artist and Lady Gaga won Best Electronic/Dance Album and Best Dance Recording.
Some of the performances at the Grammys were phenomenal and will be popular on YouTube for years to come. Some of the best performances of the night came from Dave Matthews Band, Lady Gaga and Elton John, Pink, Beyoncé, and Bon Jovi. Other performances will be watched repeatedly for how bad they were, such as Swift's off-pitch singing during her duet with Stevie Nicks.
The most spectacular performance of the night, however, was the 3-D tribute to Michael Jackson sung by Celine Dion, Jennifer Hudson, Usher, Smokey Robinson and Carrie Underwood. They sang "Earth Song," from Michael Jackson's "This Is It." The song's beautiful message urges us to take care of our planet and humanity. After the performance, Michael Jackson's children Prince and Paris accepted an award for Honorary Lifetime Achievement on their father's behalf bringing the audience to their feet and to tears.
Undoubtedly, one of the worst performances of the night came from the Black Eyed Peas. They sang "Imma Be," and the 2009 anthem, "I Gotta Feeling." Unfortunately, the vocals were way off tune and beat. Between that and the back-up dancers that looked like transformers and Fergie's futuristic poker player outfit, the whole performance did not live up to the high standards that the Black Eyed Peas raised through their popular success.
Although the night was extremely successful for some and not so successful for others, the whole night was entertaining for viewers. The beautiful celebrities, the stunning outfits, the spectacular performances, and the exciting wins made for yet another glorious Grammy night.
