The faculty at St. Norbert College are once again showing how artistically talented they truly are.

For the past week and continuing to Feb. 19, the Biennial Art Faculty Exhibition in the Bush Art Center is on display. With works from Fr. James Neilson, Brian Pirman, Donald Taylor, William Bohné, Shane Rocheleau, John Gordon and Christopher Cannon on display, it is quite evident that the art faculty is extremely talented.

When asked about his work, Neilson said that his inspiration to use books in his piece "You Have to Tell Me About Your Future," came from how he wants to "reveal the essential nature of a book." That inspiration turned into my favorite piece in the exhibition. The piece is very different because of how the books are opened, and it has a very visually interesting texture. Each book has a rough shape, similar to a mountain, but Neilson also managed to keep the text of some of the pages visible. I had never seen art quiet like it before.

Other standout works are "Kobe" by Brian Pirman; "Untitled 4" by Shane Rocheleau, which consists of photographs of flowers that had shallow depth and different lighting; and "Hiroko" by John Gordon, an oil painting of a young girl sitting in a dark room that contains a strange yet beautiful vibrancy. William Bohné also contributes with a sculpture of a door called "Diddley Door." The door initially looks ancient, but soon the history and random carvings scattered around the doorframe make the door intriguing and cause the audience to wonder how long the door has been in use. These works, however, are only a small sample of the amazing and beautiful work by each faculty member.

All of the works on display in the Bush Art Center showcase the talent and effort that each of these professors put into their work. All of the pieces have something different and unique about them, and the mediums encompass everything from oil paintings to clay sculptures.
