There is no denying that most of us are fascinated by celebrities and the lifestyles of the rich and famous:. Why else would we spend our weekly allowances on "Us Weekly" and "People" magazines? Or why would we pay obscene amounts of money to see a concert or NFL game? We love them. Most importantly, we love to talk about them.
The fourth installment of "Pirates of the Caribbean" will begin shooting soon; however, some of your favorite pirates won't be coming back. Keira Knightley and Orlando Bloom backed out of the series, claiming that they have moved on. I'm not sure what is worse: "Pirates of the Caribbean" without Orlando Bloom, or that Keira Knightley thinks her dwindling career will stay afloat without this movie?
"When In Rome" stars Kristen Bell and Dax Shepard recently announced their engagement. Although Bell didn't leave the Grammys with any shiny awards (or nominations… she's an actress) on Sunday, she still got to show off her new shiny engagement ring.
PGA Golfer Phil Mickelson has been accused of cheating-not on his wife-but with the kind of club he has been using. Between Mickelson and Tiger Woods, the PGA has had more drama than an episode of "One Tree Hill." And I must admit, I'm getting tired of both of them.
Kanye West couldn't stay out of the unflattering limelight for too long. Recently PETA criticized West for donning fur during Paris Fashion Week. Naturally, West felt the need to refute this in a well thought out fashion: "We are the [insert profanity here] rock stars baby… We live it so hard people live through us!" Well, there is clearly no arguing with that logic.
"Lost" began its sixth and final season. The cast and crew have been everywhere in the media, avoiding all of the questions that the fans have: Is Juliet alive? What happened to Claire? What is the significance of the numbers? How did Locke come back to life? Why doesn't Richard Alpert age? And the list goes on and on. The only question I have: Who thinks of this stuff?
The Oscar nominations were announced. "Avatar," "The Hurt Locker," "Up in the Air" and "The Blind Side" dominate each of the categories (not surprising). Directors James Cameron ("Avatar") and Kathryn Bigelow ("The Hurt Locker") are divorced, which should make for a very interesting battle of the exes.
Reality star Audrina Patridge is dating singer/songwriter Ryan Cabrera. Ryan Cabrera might as well give up his singing career for trashy MTV reality shows. A couple years ago, he frequently guest-starred on "The Ashlee Simpson Show," and now I'm sure he'll be on "The Hills." I say forget music Cabrera; your calling is in pointless television.
