The extraordinary world of Dr. Seuss was brought to life in "Seussical," a musical that creatively integrated playful music with a delightful chorus and highlighted the infamous works of Dr. Seuss. The audience was captivated by the theatrical rendition of the cherished works compiled by a man who changed children's literature and reintroduced the meaning behind the use of imagination. "Oh the thinks you can think when you think about Seuss!"

The St. Norbert College Knight Theater presented "Seussical", directed by Amanda Cormican '11, on Jan. 27-31 at the Abbot Pennings Hall of Fine Arts. The beautifully decorated set, colorful props, magical characters and playful music transported the audience into the quirky mind of Dr. Seuss. Children, adults and college students alike flooded the audience and watched as the talented actors creatively introduced a story that everyone could relate to. The abstract setting and fascinating characters allowed everyone to explore a new world where anything can happen.

Seth Wanta '10 played the role of the Cat in the Hat who manipulated Jojo (Carolyn Silverberg '12) into thinking differently and opening her mind to the unthinkable. Horton the Elephant (David Gusloff '11) was an inspiring character who did all he could to help Mayzie La Bird (Elizabeth Sauter '10) raise her underappreciated egg and help save a microscopic village for the Mayor of Whoville (Brandon Ponschock '12). Gertrude McFuzz (Kelly Haddad '10) trys to get Horton to notice her, and in doing so creates comic relief throughout the performance and enchanted all who heard her lovely voice.

I enjoyed the performance and was completely entranced by the colorful set and costumes. The vocals exhibited by the actors and actresses were outstanding and captured the attention of the audience from beginning to end. The amount of preparation and work that was put into the musical was evident, and the hard-working theatrical department produced yet another show that they could be proud of. The talented young singers and actors can be very content after their solid performance.

All of the creative characters added elements to the musical that molded a performance that will be proudly cherished by those who watched. The comical rhyming lines, charming vocals and wonderful acting created a playful musical with an important message that everyone needs to remember with each passing day: think with an open mind and appreciate each day that you are blessed with.
