Academic Dean Search: Three Finalists To Visit Campus
Joanna Holzhaeuser
Issue date: 2/8/10 Section: News
The search for a new academic dean began after current dean Michael Marsden announced his retirement from the position in early fall.
The academic dean search committee has narrowed down the candidates to three people, all of whom will be visiting the college within the month of February.
Of the many applicants for the job, the committee interviewed seven and narrowed down that group to the three who will be coming to campus.
The three finalists are:
Dr. Sunil Kukreja, professor of sociology and former chair of the department of comparative sociology at the University of Puget Sound will be visiting Feb. 15-16.
Dr. Brian Conniff, professor of English and dean of the college of humanities and behavioral sciences at Radford University will be visiting Feb. 18-19.
Dr. Jeffrey Frick, professor of chemistry and associate provost for academic services at Illinois Wesleyan University will be visiting Feb. 23-24.
President Thomas Kunkel described the applicant pool as "deep and strong," although it was weak on gender ration and heavily favored men.
Kunkel said that he is "excited and quite confident that we will find someone to follow the good work that Dean Marsden has done while still bringing something new to the table."
The three finalists' visits will include meetings with Student Government Association officers, as well as open forums.
The St. Norbert Times will continue academic dean updates and plans to spotlight each candidate's visit to the campus.
