The snow is starting to melt and that isn't going to be the best thing come this spring. The St. Norbert men have been preparing for the 2010 season by locking themselves inside the Schuldes Sports Center and weight room. The team has been continually working out and taking batting practice in the gym in hopes to improve upon last year's 23-15 record. Last season gained a large bid, but also consisted of losing a heart breaker to the College of St. Scholastica and St. Olaf College at the NCAA Division III Midwest Regional.

"The strength of our schedule last year had a substantial influence on the at large bid we received," said senior outfielder Jared Yost. "Similar to last year, we are competing against a number of strong teams such as Stevens Point, Oshkosh, and Augustana. As a team, we are striving to retain the respect we have in our conference and in our region by capitalizing on the games we are expected to win and continuing to compete with the top teams in our region."

This year's team will begin its season during spring break. Heading down to the sunny Central Florida Invitational, the Green Knights open up play against Fontbonne University on March 14. The team's opening home games will both be double headers against UW-Steven's Point and UW-Oshkosh. This also is similar to last season as the Knights split these double headers last year.

"We are extremely excited for these games because they are four of the biggest games we'll play all year," said Yost. "They give us the opportunity to compete with a couple of more successful and respected baseball programs in the country."

Senior captain and pitcher Trevin Hillesheim agrees that playing the big name teams is significant and adds that the fact the games are going to be played at home is something the team is looking forward to. "It's always nice to play at home as we get real big turnouts at our home games with a solid following for our team," he said. "It is a great feeling to play in front of family and friends at the SNC community."
